About the Role
We are looking for a full-time Creative Pattern Writer & Technical Pattern Specialist to join our team in a contract role designed to be long-term and ongoing. This is a career opportunity for someone who wants to grow with Sew A Story, take ownership of the pattern process, and help us deliver patterns that inspire families everywhere.
The person in this role will begin by learning our systems and workflows.
Over time, you’ll step into owning the entire pattern process, making sure patterns are written, edited, formatted, tested, and ready for release. You’ll balance technical accuracy with creative contribution, ensuring each pattern is not only clear and professional but also inspiring and aligned with our mission.
We’re looking for someone who is highly organized, dependable, and self-motivated, but also creative and collaborative. Someone who enjoys contributing ideas and working closely with a small, supportive team.

What You’ll Do
-Write and edit quilt, sewing, and craft patterns with clarity and accuracy
-Use Adobe Illustrator and InDesign to design and format professional patterns
-Manage the full pattern process, from drafts to deadlines to testing
-Collaborate with the team to support membership, wholesale, and educational
pattern releases
-Bring your ideas and creativity to help improve both patterns and processes


What We’re Looking For
-Experience in quilt and sewing pattern writing and editing
-Familiarity with a variety of quilt, sewing, and craft projects
-Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign
-Organized, detail-oriented, and dependable
-Self-motivated and able to manage projects independently
-A collaborative teammate who communicates well and cares about the mission


Nice-to-Haves (but trainable):
-Familiarity with machine embroidery, EQ8, paper crafts etc
-Experience with technical content creation (tutorials, guides, or technical blog posts)
-Comfort with digital creative tools
