RBD Block Challenge 2025 - My Creative Setting

As we wrap up this year’s Block Challenge, I wanted to share a twist on the traditional setting instructions. While Riley Blake Designs offers a beautiful layout (linked below for those following along), I decided to embrace creativity and make my own design!

My Custom Setting: A Playful Ombre

Here’s how I brought my quilt to life:

  1. Laid Out Blocks in Ombre: I arranged my blocks from lightest to darkest, creating a gradient effect that gives the quilt a sense of flow and movement.
  2. Sashed with 2 ½" Strips: Instead of the checkerboard sashing in the official instructions, I used simple 2 ½" Width of Fabric (WOF) strips to let the blocks shine.
  3. Added a 4" Border: I framed the quilt with a bold 4" border, grounding the design and pulling the colors together.
  4. Finished with a Soft Binding: A coordinating fabric from my  It Takes a Village collection tied everything together.

Official RBD Setting Pattern

If you’d like to follow the official pattern, the Riley Blake Designs team has provided a stunning 65 ½" × 65 ½" layout featuring checkerboard sashing and a central star. You can find the full instructions here:

Inspired by Past Challenges

This year’s creative layout was inspired by my past RBD Block Challenge quilts from 2023 and 2024. I loved experimenting with unique arrangements that bring out the personality of each block. Take a look at how I finished my previous quilts for more ideas:
