A Cozy Quilt for the Fall Season

There’s something about fall that makes us want to slow down, spend a little more time at the sewing machine, and create something cozy for home.

The Feather Fly Quilt is a beautiful project for the season, featuring rows of pieced feathers in the warm, earthy colors of Boho Batiks by Jennifer Long for Riley Blake Designs. The soft movement in the design gives the quilt a calm, nature-inspired feel that fits beautifully with autumn sewing.

This month’s quilt is part of our October Pattern Club, where members are also creating the Pumpkin Carry All.

A Technique to Practice: Stitch and Flip

The Feather Fly Quilt is a wonderful opportunity to build confidence with Stitch and Flip piecing.

Each feather block is created one step at a time, giving you lots of practice with accurate piecing, trimming, and pressing. As the blocks come together, you’ll begin to see the feather shapes take form and create the beautiful movement throughout the finished quilt.

About the Feather Fly Quilt

The finished quilt measures approximately 68" × 92", making it a beautiful full-sized quilt for a bed or a cozy addition to your home.

The rich colors of Boho Batiks give every feather a slightly different look while still creating a soft, coordinated design from top to bottom.

Supplies to Get Started

To create your Feather Fly Quilt, you’ll need your favorite quilting tools along with fabrics from the Boho Batiks collection.

A rotary cutter, ruler, sewing machine, and a little time for careful cutting and pressing will help each feather block come together beautifully.
