A Fall Bag Made for the Season

There’s something about fall that makes us want to bring warm colors, cozy textures, and a little handmade creativity into everything we do.

The Pumpkin Carry All is a fun and practical project for the season, featuring playful pumpkin appliqué and the beautiful earthy colors of Boho Batiks by Jennifer Long for Riley Blake Designs.

With its roomy shape and thoughtful details, it’s a bag you can enjoy carrying throughout fall while showing off a little handmade style along the way.

This month’s craft is part of our October Pattern Club, where members are also creating the Feather Fly Quilt.

A Technique to Practice: Bag Construction & Fusible Appliqué

The Pumpkin Carry All is a wonderful project for building confidence with bag construction and fusible appliqué.

You’ll piece the exterior, add the pumpkin appliqué, create the handles, work with interfacing and fusible fleece, and assemble the bag and lining into a finished project.

For the appliqué and structure, we love using Therm O Web HeatnBond® products to help everything come together beautifully.

About the Pumpkin Carry All

The finished bag measures approximately 14" × 4" × 11", giving you plenty of room for everyday essentials, sewing supplies, or whatever you need to carry along.

The Boho Batiks fabrics give the pumpkins a warm, modern look that feels perfect for October without making this a bag you can only enjoy for one day of the year.

You can even add the optional felt leaf tassel for another fun finishing detail.

Supplies to Get Started

A few helpful supplies for this project include Boho Batiks fabrics, HeatnBond® Lite, fusible fleece, lightweight fusible interfacing, cording for the handles, and a coordinating button.

A Quilty™ Hemostat is also handy for turning the smaller pieces and pushing out those edges as you assemble your bag.
