A Storybook Quilt Filled With Vintage Charm
There is something especially meaningful about quilts that tell a story through every block.
This month inside Pattern Club, members are creating the Carpet Bags Quilt, a traditionally pieced quilt inspired by classic travel pieces and the whimsical details of the Mary Poppins world.
The quilt features a collection of playful blocks including carpet bags, lamps, shoes, plants, coat racks, picture frames, and even a tape measure design, all brought together in a rich storybook layout. The finished quilt measures 85 1/2" × 88" .
A Quilt Designed to Be Enjoyed Step by Step
One of the things that makes the Carpet Bags Quilt so enjoyable is how naturally it breaks into manageable sections.
Each block introduces different piecing techniques and visual details, helping the project feel creative and engaging from beginning to end. The pattern includes stitch-and-flip construction, half square triangles, and half rectangle triangles throughout the quilt assembly .
Because the quilt is assembled block by block, it also creates natural stopping points that make it easier to sew at your own pace.
Inspired by A Spoonful of Sugar
The quilt is designed using the A Spoonful of Sugar fabric collection by Jennifer Long for Riley Blake Designs .
The combination of florals, plaids, and soft vintage-inspired prints gives the quilt a warm and collected feel while still allowing each block to stand out individually.
The coordinating Carpet Bag craft project also ties beautifully into the theme this month, making the full Pattern Club collection feel cohesive and story-filled .
