The Michael Doll is our March Doll of the Month inside the Modern Rag Doll Membership. He is part of the A Spoonful of Sugar fabric collection and is the first of four Mary Poppins inspired dolls in this series.
Michael includes thoughtful details like a structured jacket, coordinating hat, and layered clothing elements that give you the opportunity to practice both in the hoop construction and finishing techniques outside the hoop.

Designed for Multiple Sizes
The Michael Doll is available in 14", 16", and 18" finished sizes and fits 5×7, 6×10, and 8×12 stitchable areas. This allows you to choose the size that works best for your embroidery machine and sewing goals.
Each section of the doll is built in clear, manageable steps. Arms, legs, body, jacket pieces, and hat are completed in separate hoops before final assembly. This structure makes the project approachable, even though it includes multiple elements.
Construction Highlights
Michael’s jacket is assembled partially outside the hoop, which gives you the opportunity to practice pressing, clipping corners, and topstitching for a clean finish. Taking your time during this step gives the finished doll a polished look.
The hat is another fun detail. It adds personality to the doll and is completed in its own hoop step before being finished by hand.
Thoughtful stuffing and shaping also play an important role in the final result. Leaving the recommended allowance at the top of limbs ensures clean assembly when attaching everything together.
