Mary Poppins Quilt Pattern

March Quilt Inside Pattern Club

This month inside Pattern Club, we are sewing the Mary Poppins Quilt, created with the Spoonful of Sugar fabric collection by Jennifer Long for Riley Blake Designs.

If you love character quilts with thoughtful piecing and beautiful fabric details, this design brings all of that together in one project.

The finished quilt measures 54 1/2" × 88" and makes a beautiful statement for a bed, reading corner, or sewing room wall.

A Quilt Built in Sections

The Mary Poppins Quilt is constructed in clear sections. You begin with the head and body blocks, move into the skirt and shoes, and then assemble the quilt center before adding borders.

The pattern uses traditional quilting techniques such as Stitch and Flip, Half Square Triangles, and Flying Geese variations. If you are comfortable with basic piecing and ready to grow your skills, this quilt offers a satisfying and structured process.

Working one block at a time keeps the project feeling steady and manageable.

Fabric Details

The Spoonful of Sugar collection brings this quilt to life with florals, plaids, and soft coordinating backgrounds. The contrast between background and garment fabrics allows the design to read clearly from a distance.

You can also substitute solids in the face and hair sections to reflect different skin tones and hair colors while keeping the design intact.

Taking a few extra minutes to plan contrast before cutting will make a noticeable difference in the final result.

Before You Begin

Read through the pattern completely before cutting. Label each piece as directed and organize fabrics by section. Preparation makes construction smoother and helps prevent mistakes.

Press consistently and trim accurately during Stitch and Flip steps. These small habits make assembly easier when joining larger blocks together.
