Mary Poppins Storybag Felt Panel SAL
Getting Ready
The Mary Poppins Storybag Felt Panel Sew Along begins March 4, 2026, and I am so excited to stitch this one together.
This felt panel is designed to create a storybook-style playmat bag filled with characters, accessories, and imaginative details. Over four weeks, we will cut, embellish, assemble, and finish a beautiful keepsake that encourages storytelling and hands-on play.
You can find the Mary Poppins Storybag Felt Panel at your favorite local quilt shop, or shop limited quantities through Sew A Story. SHOP HERE
What We Will Be Doing Each Week
Here is a simple look at our four-week plan:
Week 1 – March 4
Cut felt characters and accessories and sort them by theme.
Week 2 – March 11
Embroider and embellish felt characters. Begin backing with stabilizer and craft felt.
Week 3 – March 18
Assemble the playmat bag, including handles, lining, and seams.
Week 4 – March 25
Add closures, trim edges, and finish optional details
Supplies You Will Need
Here are the main supplies to gather before we begin:
Needed Supplies
- (1) Mary Poppins Storybag Felt Panel
- Quilty Hemostat or turning tool
- Plastic snaps or Velcro for bag closure

Optional Supplies
- HeatnBond Craft Extra Firm Non-Woven Fusible Stabilizer
- 36" x 48" white craft felt for backing
- Embroidery floss for embellishments
- Sparkle Paste or small trims
- Hand sewing needle and thread
- Ribbon for optional charm
If you plan to embellish your dolls with embroidery or sparkle details, now is a great time to choose thread colors and trims.
A Few Helpful Notes
- Read through the instructions before starting.
- If using fusible stabilizer, test a small scrap first. Heat can melt acrylic felt.
- Keep your pieces organized by character or scene. This will make Week 2 much smoother.

This project is designed to be stitched step by step. There is no rush. Each week builds on the last.
Take a little time this week to gather your supplies, clear your sewing space, and get ready to begin.
We will be sewing together inside the free Sew A Story community. Be sure to join us there so you can share progress, ask questions, and be eligible for prizes.
We start March 4, 2026, and I cannot wait to sew along with you.
