Mary Poppins Storybag Felt Panel Sew Along - Week 3
Week 3: Finishing Characters
Welcome to Week 3 of the Mary Poppins Storybag Felt Panel Sew Along.
This week we are finishing the characters. You have already cut your pieces and added embellishments. Now it is time to complete each character so they are ready to be used inside the storybag.
Before you begin, take a few minutes to watch the Week 3 video for step by step guidance.

Week 3 Focus
This week we will:
- Complete the character layers
• Attach backing pieces as instructed
• Secure smaller details in place
• Make sure each character is fully finished and ready for play
Supplies You Will Need This Week
For Week 3, gather:
- Your embellished felt pieces
• Coordinating backing felt
• Thread or embroidery floss
• Needle or sewing machine (as desired)
• Small scissors for trimming

Week 3 Instructions
Step 1: Layer and Align
Place each finished character piece on its backing layer. Make sure everything is straight and evenly aligned before stitching.
If you are using a machine, sew slowly around curves. If you are hand stitching, keep your stitches small and consistent.
Step 2: Secure Small Details
Check that all embellishments and layered pieces are securely attached. Gently tug on small accessories to be sure they are stitched down well.
This is especially important for pieces that may be handled often during play.
Step 3: Trim and Clean Edges
Once stitched, trim any uneven edges carefully. A clean edge makes your finished characters look polished and helps them hold their shape over time.

Helpful Tips for Week 3
- Work on one character at a time from start to finish.
• Keep your stitches close to the edge but not so close that they pull through the felt.
• If your felt shifts while stitching, use clips instead of pins to hold layers together.
By the end of this week, you should have a full set of finished characters ready to go into your storybag next week.
