Week 4: Bag Assembly

Welcome to Week 4 of the Mary Poppins Storybag Felt Panel Sew Along.

This is the final week, and everything comes together here. Your characters are finished, organized, and ready. Now it is time to assemble the storybag and create the play space that will hold all the pieces.

Before you begin, watch the Week 4 video so you can follow the steps in order.

Week 4 Focus

This week we will:

• Assemble the bag pieces
  • Attach lining or backing as instructed
  • Add closures or finishing elements
  • Insert and organize finished characters

Supplies You Will Need This Week

Gather:

• Bag pieces from your panel
  • Lining or backing fabric if required
  • Snaps or closures if included
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine or needle

Week 4 Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Bag Pieces

Lay out all bag components and confirm orientation before sewing. Make sure pockets or flaps are facing the correct direction.

Taking a few extra minutes to double check placement will prevent needing to unpick stitches later.

Step 2: Sew the Bag Together

Follow the instructions step by step. Sew slowly around curves and thicker sections. If sewing through multiple layers of felt, use a slightly longer stitch length to keep seams smooth.

Step 3: Add Closures

Attach snaps or closures carefully. Test placement before securing permanently to make sure the bag closes neatly and evenly.

Step 4: Insert Characters

Place your finished characters into their pockets or sections inside the bag. Adjust placement so everything fits comfortably and is easy to access.

Helpful Tips for Week 4

• Test your closure placement before final installation.
  • Trim loose threads and check seams for strength.
  • If the bag feels bulky, gently press with low heat and a pressing cloth, testing first on scrap felt.
