Nutcracker Felt Panel Sew-Along: Getting Ready

The Nutcracker Felt Panel Sew-Along begins October 7, and I am so excited to sew this project with you!

Over four weeks, we will turn the Nutcracker Tradition Felt Panel into a collection of felt characters and a coordinating Nutcracker House Story Playmat and Tote. It opens flat for storytelling and imaginative play, then folds back up to keep all of the characters together.

Before we begin, let’s get a few things ready.

What You’ll Need

The main thing you will need is the Nutcracker Tradition Felt Panel from my Nutcracker Tradition fabric collection.

You can find the panel at your local quilt shop or through Sew A Story while supplies are available.

Along with your basic sewing supplies, you may also want to have:

• White craft felt for backing your characters
• Fusible interfacing for a little extra structure
• A few embellishments such as embroidery thread, sparkle paste, sequins, or buttons

All of these extras are optional. You can keep your project simple and sew the panel as it is, or add your own little details along the way.

A Quick Tip Before You Begin

If you decide to use interfacing, remember that the felt panel is acrylic and can be sensitive to heat. Test your iron on a scrap first and press carefully from the back.

Other than that, there is no need to overthink your preparation. Gather your panel, basic sewing tools, and any fun extras you would like to use, and you are ready to begin.
