Nutcracker Felt Panel Sew-Along: Week 1
Welcome to Week 1 of the Nutcracker Felt Panel Sew-Along!
This week is all about getting familiar with the project, imagining the story you want to create, and preparing and cutting your felt pieces.
The Nutcracker Tradition Felt Panel is filled with familiar characters, animals, accessories, and the pieces for the Nutcracker House Story Playmat and Tote. Before we add any sparkle or stitching, we are going to take our time getting everything cut and organized.
This Week’s Goal
Your main goal for Week 1 is simple:
Prepare and cut all of your felt pieces.
Carefully cut each character, figure, accessory, and bag piece along the outer cut lines.
As you work, it can be helpful to keep your characters and accessories together and your bag pieces in a separate pile. There is no need to rush. Take your time around the smaller details and curved edges.
Think About Your Story
Before moving on, spend a little time looking at your characters.
Will your Nutcracker Felt Panel become a special holiday gift? Will you use it for imaginative play with a child? Maybe the characters will become part of a Nutcracker countdown to Christmas.
This is also a good time to decide whether you want to keep your characters simple or add embellishments next week.
Share Your Progress
Once you have started cutting, come share a photo inside the Sew A Story Open Creative Community.
We would love to see your panel, your growing pile of characters, or where you are sewing from.
Next week, we’ll start adding some of those special details with sparkles and embroidery.
Happy sewing!
