RBD Block Challenge 2026 – Block 12: Majestic View

Week 12 of the RBD Block Challenge brings us Majestic View by Casey Cometti @wellspringdesigns_co.  This block has a beautiful, radiating design that draws your eye to the center, and I enjoyed sewing it using prints from my Thimbelina fabric collection. As the pieces came together, the star shape became more defined, and it was a steady, enjoyable block to work on this week.

Starburst is one of those blocks that looks intricate when finished but is very manageable when you take it step by step. I liked choosing fabrics that helped highlight the center while keeping the outer sections balanced.

Block 12: Starburst

Starburst finishes at 10 inches by 10 inches and uses a mix of half square triangles and simple piecing to create the radiating star design. The layout builds from the center outward, and the structure of the block helps keep everything aligned as you sew.

Sew With Me

Here is how I approached my Thimbelina version of Starburst.

Fabric Choices:
I used a mix of Thimbelina prints with a bit of contrast so the star shape would stand out. The smaller scale prints worked well in the outer sections.

Placement:
I laid out the full block before sewing to make sure the star shape felt balanced and the colors flowed evenly from the center outward.

A Hand Stitched Detail:
For this block, I added a light hand stitched outline around the center star using Aurifil embroidery floss. It gives a soft detail that frames the design without taking away from the piecing.

Sharing Tips:
Trim your half square triangles carefully so the points come together cleanly.

Press as you go to help the star shape stay crisp.

Lay out your pieces before sewing to check the direction and placement.

More About This Fabric Collection

The Thimbelina fabrics have been so enjoyable to sew with throughout this challenge. The collection includes soft florals, tiny thimbles, playful sewing motifs, and the sweetest scenes of fairies stitching and creating. The smaller scale prints work well in piecing, and the Garden florals add a gentle touch of color. If you are enjoying these fabrics, you can shop the full Thimbelina fabric collection HERE.

Quilting Together

It has been wonderful to see all the versions of the blocks shared so far. Starburst adds a beautiful focal point to the quilt, and I would love to see how your version turns out.
