RBD Block Challenge 2026 β Block 14: Flower Show
Week 14 of the RBD Block Challenge brings us Flower Show by Janet Wecker Frisch @jweckerfrisch. This block has a timeless feel, and I really enjoyed how the design comes together into a strong star shape.
There is something really nice about working on a classic style block at this stage in the quilt. The layout feels familiar, but the way the pieces come together still keeps it interesting. Sewing this with the Thimbelina fabrics gave it a soft, story-filled look while still letting the star stand out.
Block 14: Vintage Star
Flower Show finishes at 10 inches by 10 inches and uses a mix of half square triangles and simple piecing to create the star design. The construction is clear and steady, and once the sections are joined, the star shape becomes the focus of the block.
Sew With Me
Here is how I approached my Thimbelina version of Vintage Star.
Fabric Choices:
I chose fabrics with enough contrast so the star shape would stand out clearly from the background. Mixing a few different prints helped keep the block interesting without feeling too busy.
Placement:
I laid out the pieces before sewing to make sure the star felt balanced and the points were clearly defined.
A Hand Stitched Detail:
For this block, I added a few simple hand stitches along the star points. It adds a soft detail and gives the block a slightly finished look without taking away from the piecing.
Sharing Tips:
Trim your half square triangles carefully so the star points line up neatly.
Keep an eye on your seam allowances so everything stays consistent.
Lay out the full block before sewing to double check placement.
More About This Fabric Collection
The Thimbelina fabrics continue to work beautifully across each block. The mix of florals, small prints, and sewing inspired details makes it easy to create contrast while still keeping everything cohesive. The softer tones and playful motifs bring a gentle feel to the quilt as it grows.

Quilting Together
It has been so nice to see how everyone’s quilts are coming together. Vintage Star adds a familiar shape to the overall layout, and I would love to see how your version turns out.
