RBD Block Challenge 2026 – Block 15: Center of Attention

Week 15 of the RBD Block Challenge brings us Center of Attention by Heather Peterson @ankastreasures. This block has a strong star design with a bold center, and I really enjoyed watching the layout come together step by step. I used prints from my Thimbelina fabric collection, and the mix of soft florals and smaller prints helped highlight the star shape.

Center of Attention is a block that builds in sections, starting with smaller units and working toward a defined center star. As the pieces come together, the design becomes very clear, which makes this block especially satisfying to sew.

Block 15: Center of Attention

Center of Attention finishes at 10 inches by 10 inches and combines stitch and flip units with simple piecing to create the star layout. The structure of the block keeps everything aligned, and the layout comes together cleanly once all units are complete.

Sew With Me

Here is how I approached my Thimbelina version of Center of Attention.

Fabric Choices:
I chose a mix of Thimbelina prints to help the center star stand out. I used a slightly stronger print in the middle and softer surrounding prints so the shape stays clear without feeling too bold.

Placement:
Before sewing the final rows, I laid out all the units to check the balance of color around the star. This helped keep the design even on all sides.

A Hand Stitched Detail:
For this block, I added a few small hand stitches around the center star using Aurifil embroidery floss. I kept the stitching simple so it adds a soft texture without distracting from the piecing.

Sharing Tips:
Pay attention to the direction of your stitch and flip corners so the star points stay consistent.

Trim units carefully so everything lines up when joining rows.

Lay out all sections before sewing the final block to check placement.

More About This Fabric Collection

The Thimbelina fabrics continue to work beautifully in each block. The collection includes soft florals, tiny thimbles, playful sewing motifs, and sweet scenes of fairies stitching and creating. The smaller scale prints are helpful for detailed piecing, while the florals add a gentle softness to the design.

Quilting Together

It has been so special to see this quilt come together block by block. Center of Attention adds a strong focal point to the layout, and I would love to see how your version turns out.
