Seahorse School Quilt-Along – Week 1

Gather, Sparkle & Begin

Welcome to Week 1 of the Seahorse School Quilt-Along. I’m so glad you’re here. This week is all about getting settled, preparing your fabric, and beginning the first steps toward your quilt.

The Seahorse School Quilt is designed to bring joy, creativity, and storytelling into your sewing time. Whether you’re sewing for a child, a classroom, or as a personal keepsake, this project honors gentle strength and playful learning.

This Week’s Focus

  • Gather and organize your fabrics
  • Review the pattern and schedule
  • Cut and piece the background sections
  • Begin fussy cutting or planning for embellishments (optional)

Take time to enjoy this starting point. A calm, thoughtful beginning sets the tone for the rest of the quilt.

Tips for Success

  • Read through the pattern completely before cutting
  • Label your pieces as you go to stay organized
  • Starch your fabric (if desired) before cutting for clean, crisp piecing
  • Begin visualizing where sparkle paste or other embellishments might go later

If you’re using the Created With Love fat quarter bundle, lay out your prints and decide which ones will appear in the Seahorse, Bubble, and Fish blocks.

Looking Ahead

Next week we’ll begin sewing the Seahorse Block. This is the centerpiece of the quilt and a great opportunity to showcase one or two favorite prints.
