Seahorse School Quilt-Along β Week 2
Piece the Seahorse Block
Welcome to Week 2 of the Seahorse School Quilt-Along. This week we will begin with the block that brings the quilt to life. The Seahorse!
This is the heart of the design and a wonderful place to let your fabric choices shine. The Seahorse is built using traditional piecing, and the shape works beautifully with fussy cutting, soft color gradients, or even sparkle accents if you choose to embellish.
This Week’s Focus
- Cut and piece the Seahorse Block
- Double check orientation and layout
- Press carefully after each step to keep your points crisp
Use a layout board or design wall if you have one. If not, laying out your pieces next to your machine will help you keep the sections in order.
Tips for Success
- Use a consistent seam allowance throughout the block
- Pre-label pieces if your fabric prints are close in tone
- Chain piece where possible to save time and thread
- Finger press before using an iron if seams feel bulky
As you assemble the pieces, take your time and enjoy seeing your Seahorse take shape. This block will set the tone for the rest of the quilt.

Looking Ahead
Next week we will move on to the Bubble and Fish Blocks. These smaller companion blocks add charm and movement to the layout, and they help frame the Seahorse with balance and color.
Share Your Progress
We would love to see your Seahorse. Post a photo of your finished block or your layout in progress and tag your post so others can see and encourage you.
