Seahorse School Quilt-Along – Week 3

Create the Bubble and Fish Blocks

This week we will focus on building the Bubble and Fish Blocks. These playful elements add movement and personality to your quilt, and they help bring balance to the Seahorse centerpiece.

Take your time selecting fabrics that provide contrast or softness, depending on the look you want. These blocks are a great place to use smaller prints, bright colors, or fussy-cut motifs from the Created With Love collection.

This Week’s Focus

  • Cut and piece the Bubble Blocks
  • Cut and piece the Fish Blocks
  • Review layout placement in the pattern
  • Begin arranging all finished blocks on a design wall or flat surface

These supporting blocks help tell the story of your quilt and guide the viewer's eye around the design.

Tips for Success

  • Keep your seam allowance consistent from block to block
  • Use directional prints mindfully, especially in the Fish Blocks
  • Lay out your finished blocks next to the Seahorse Block to preview balance
  • Press carefully and trim as needed before moving to final assembly

If you want to embellish any of these blocks, this is a good stage to begin visual planning or handwork. Just keep embellishments flat if you plan to quilt by machine.

Looking Ahead

Next week we will begin assembling the quilt top. This is where the layout comes together and your hard work begins to form a cohesive whole.

Share Your Progress

Whether you finished your Bubble and Fish Blocks or are still piecing, we would love to see what you are working on. Share your layout, fabric pulls, or in-progress seams and tag your posts.
