Sew Through the Book: The Nutcracker Collection Quilt, Getting Ready

Sew through the book with me

Every year for the last 25 years, I've treated myself to one wooden Nutcracker. They stand on top of our china cabinets in every shape, size and personality, and yes, there's even a mouse Nutcracker. This December 1st, my husband and I celebrate our 25th anniversary, and my 25th Nutcracker will join the collection.

That little tradition is the heart of the Nutcracker Collection Quilt, the quilt on the cover of my book, Sew a Story: The Nutcracker. Six Nutcrackers stand side by side, each one dressed a little differently, the way every Nutcracker on a mantel has its own personality. And starting November 11, we're sewing it together, free, one week at a time.

What Is Sew Through the Book?

Sew Through the Book is my free, year-long program where we sew the projects from my books together. The Nutcracker Collection Quilt is our very first project, and you can join at any time. Every lesson stays open, so you can sew along live or catch up whenever life allows.

The Nutcracker Collection Quilt

The finished quilt measures 62 1/2" x 82 1/2", made of six Nutcracker blocks, each 12 1/2" x 30 1/2" unfinished, framed with sashing, stars and borders. We'll sew the white colorway in Nutcracker Tradition, my fabric collection for Riley Blake Designs. There's a deeper green colorway too, so pretty for a little inspiration.

Your quilt, your way

Change a skin tone, swap a jacket color, and make each Nutcracker your own. You can even make just one, three or six. Every Nutcracker counts.
