Turtle Wave Quilt Block – Summer Block Party Week 6
Today it’s my turn to share a block for the Summer Block Party, and I am so happy to introduce the Turtle Wave Quilt Block.
This block was inspired by one of my favorite symbols of summer. The turtle represents slow moments, peaceful days by the water, and the gentle rhythm of creating something by hand. The piecing is simple, the color movement is playful, and the block comes together in a way that feels calm and satisfying.
The finished block size is 18 ½" x 18 ½", and it works beautifully on its own or as part of a full quilt.

A Few Tips for Sewing Your Block
- This block uses the stitch and flip method to shape the corners and create smooth lines. Take your time trimming and pressing for the cleanest results.
- A mix of basics and textures will give your turtle shell more visual depth. Try playing with sparkle, tonal prints, or soft textures from your stash.
- Don’t stress about matching every point — focus on the overall shape and let the piecing guide the look.
If you’re sewing along, I would love to see your block. Tag me on Instagram @sewastory_jenniferlong or reply to your Summer Block Party email with a photo.
Thanks for following along with this community project. I can’t wait to see your turtles swimming across your quilts.
