Up on the Rooftop Mystery Quilt Along – Week 5
Let’s Finish the Quilt
You’ve made it to the final week of the quilt along. This week is all about bringing everything together and celebrating the story your blocks have told. The Up on the Rooftop quilt finishes with simple sashing, borders, and binding instructions that frame each block beautifully.
After four weeks of piecing playful scenes, the final layout gives you a chance to step back and admire the big picture. Whether you used the suggested fabrics or your own holiday palette, your finished quilt is sure to bring a smile.
Tips for Finishing
- Measure before adding borders. It’s always a good idea to double-check the size of your quilt center before attaching borders, and adjust if needed.
- Join strips with angled seams. When piecing border or binding strips, use a diagonal seam to reduce bulk and help the seams disappear.
- Take your time with binding. A well-finished edge makes all the difference. Press your binding in half before sewing it to the front of your quilt and take care around the corners.
Once complete, your quilt should measure approximately 46 1/2” x 47 1/2”.
